Zig Zag Tea are brewing up a storm in the hot drinks sector

Tea fans are going potty for Zig Zag Tea. Founder, Lucy Dolan, talks inspiration, challenges and advice for future entrepreneurs

“Find a passion, make a plan, connect with people, set goals and just do it.”

Tell us a bit about Zig Zag Tea?

Zig Zag Tea is a premium range of natural tea products that help you find space to reconnect.

What was it that inspired you to set up your own business?

A visit across China where I experienced the ancient culture of tea and the wellbeing philosophies behind it.

What have been the biggest challenges you have faced so far?

Cash flow and lack of working capital makes growing and scaling the business slower and more difficult. The main reason for poor cash flow is late payment by stockists, large and small in size. The smaller businesses tend to pay more promptly than the larger businesses.

What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

Find a passion, make a plan, connect with people, set goals and just do it. The best way to learn is by doing. The sooner you start selling the faster you will learn about your product, audience, route to market. Start small and aim high.

What is your proudest achievement to date as a company?

Getting my tea served in The Shard!

Do you think an Entrepreneur ISA and a Small Business Savings Allowance would have helped aid your company’s growth in the early stages?

Yes, access to a Small Business Savings Allowance is a great incentive to save; which could allow us to re-invest at a faster rate back into the business, promoting growth. I think it’s a great idea and I would be a huge advocate of support for this venture for up and coming businesses.

Lucy Dolan is the founder of ZigZag Tea.
