Make some noise for the BBC Apprentice winner whose marketing agency is taking all the right steps

We spoke with BBC Apprentice 2014 winner, Mark Wright, who used London Sugar’s £250,000 investment to build Climb Online; the results-driven digital marketing agency.

Experience creates knowledge and knowledge creates success.

Tell us what Climb Online is and what your business offers?

Climb Online is a results-driven digital marketing agency, which provides Paid Media, SEO, Social Media, Website Design, and Creative services to businesses around the world. Through putting our customers first, we create digital campaigns with their needs in mind, working collaboratively towards achieving their business goals. We have also recently launched the Climb Academy, a digital marketing course aimed towards those wanting to kick-start a career in digital marketing. Moreover, we are soon to launch our Crypto Climber a product design to help the newly developing Cryptocurrency market.

What was it that inspired you to set-up your own business?

I grew up in Armidale, Australia, with a mother and father who both had their own businesses. After seeing how their businesses operated first-hand, I was inspired to build my own company one day; however I had not yet identified my chosen industry. When I moved to the UK in 2011, I worked for a digital marketing firm who didn’t put their customers first, and I strongly disagreed with how they did business. This inspired me to build my own firm, Climb Online, a results-driven digital marketing agency that puts customers and staff first.

Do you think an Entrepreneur ISA and a Small Business Savings Allowance would have helped aid your company’s growth in the early stages?

Absolutely. Through providing businesses with the opportunity to grow using their own savings, rather than seeking a loan or borrowed funds, they are able to independently invest in their business and are protected from creating premature debt. This would create less stress and allow more time to focus on your business.

What have been the biggest challenges you have faced so far?

The marketing industry is highly saturated and increasing competition can be challenging. However, internally, we find that sourcing staff who are highly competent in the digital field and fit into our office culture can be difficult. This is why constant innovation is the key to overcoming tough market conditions and keeping the business current to attract new clients and the best people.

What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

You must do something that you truly love to be successful. Find what your passion is first then start to work within that sector. From that point, you need experience. Experience creates knowledge and knowledge creates success.

What is your proudest achievement to date as a company?

From a company perspective, I am most proud  of being listed on Start Up 100s in three consecutive years (#22, #12, and #6), whilst I was personally honoured to be listed on Forbes 30 Under 30. Moreover, visiting my offices around the UK and seeing my businesses operating autonomously makes me excited about how quickly we’ve grown as a company.

Mark Wright is the founder of Climb Online.
